Liverpool Legends in Guernsey

The former greats of Anfield proved too much for the Guernsey Legends on Monday as the ex-Liverpool stars won 8-0 in a charity match at the Track.

John Aldridge scored a hat-trick in the first 15 minutes as Liverpool raced into a 7-0 half-time lead.

The likes of Matt Le Tissier, Colin Renouf and Pete Blondel were overwhelmed by the Liverpool side.

Guernsey's Adie Exall had the Island's best opportunity, but he was denied by the reflexes of Bob Bolder.

"Clinical finishing by the strikers," was Aldridge's summary of the match on BBC Guernsey.

"We played very well up front. In the second-half it was a lot closer, but I came off at half time."

Guernsey goalkeeper Gerve Brazier said it took him a while to get back into the swing of things:

"I haven't trained for 30 years so it was very hard work. I am still playing cricket regularly so I do still throw myself around a bit from time to time," he told BBC Guernsey.

Around 2,000 people watched the game at the Track, one of the biggest crowds for a football match in the Island for many years as more than 16,000 was raised for charity.
