Cobo to face Wanderers in final

Cricket

The 2008 Channel Island Cricket Championship final will be an all-Guernsey affair after Cobo and Wanderers both won on Saturday.

Cobo, who have still not lost a game all season, beat Sporting Club Francais by 19 runs at Grainville in a match cut to 20 overs after rain.

Batting first Cobo hit 135-9, in reply SCF could only manage 116-9.

Wanderers beat surprise Jersey semi-finalists St Ouen by three wickets in the other semi-final.

Cobo's top scorers were Peter Vidamour (41) and Matt Oliver (23).

Jeremy Frith's bowling then secured the match for the visitors. The island all-rounder took 5-20, four coming in a six-ball spell in the 19th over to put Cobo through.

At the KGV St Ouen could only manage 98 all out in 43 overs against a fierce Wanderers attack.

In reply St Ouen started off brilliantly, reducing Wanderers to 7-3.

But Ross Kneller steadied the ship for the Guernsey side with an impressive 56 not out and Wanderers made their target in 32 overs for the loss of seven wickets.

It means next week's final at the KGV will see Cobo looking to end the season unbeaten, with Wanderers, who finished just behind them in the Guernsey league, the only side standing in their way.
