Jersey win 2007 Muratti
Kennedy is "quietly confident" his side can repeat their 2007 victory

Jersey's football manager Dave Kennedy says he is "quietly confident" that his side can retain the Muratti vase.

Jersey go into Monday's match against Guernsey at Springfield with no fresh injury worries and a good warm-up programme behind them.

"We're quietly confident and we have every reason to be," Kennedy told BBC Radio Jersey.

"We've got a very good squad of players and I think we're ahead of the game as regard 12 months ago," he added.

However he conceded that his side would have to be on top form to beat Guernsey.

"For us to retain it, we're going to be at our very, very best.

"You do need a bit of luck, these games are always tight and that bit of luck can be the difference between winning and losing the Muratti.

"I'm a great believer that if you give a hundred per cent then the luck comes after that."

Key holding midfielder Russell Le Feuvre, the only doubt in Kennedy's squad, has recovered from a toe injury to take his place in the team.

"The week before the Muratti is always the best time for a manager because the players are all focused, they all want to do well and all want to be in that starting 11," Kennedy said.

"Some of the standard on the training park has been outstanding this week."

Jersey have had the better results in the competition in recent years.

They lost the 2005 Muratti on penalties at Springfield, but have not been beaten by the Sarnians in open play on home turf since 1992, with Guernsey's last win of any description other than from spot kicks in 2001.
