Jersey boxing coach Brian Rousseau has won this years Sid Guy memorial award for his long and distinguished service to the island. The Jersey Sports Council's annual awards saw motor-cyclist Bruce Dingle win the sports person of the year. On a good night for disability sport, the Special Gymnastics Club squad won the Team Trophy. Alan Ronxin, from wheelchair sport, was awarded the Colin Welsh Memorial Trophy for unsung heroes. David Speller, Katie Speller, Bruce Horwood and Jacy Brown all received Certificates of Merit, as did round-the-island swimmers Tasmin Powell, Bianca Kempster and Chantelle Le Guilcher. The Highland Spring bursary went to swimmer Tom Gallichan and canoeist and surf kayaker Henry Johnson, who both received cheques to help with their development. The Sid Guy memorial award is regarded as one of the most prestigious in the island. This year's recipient Brian Rousseau, who has spent 53 years in boxing, told BBC Jersey: "I'm absolutely amazed, there's lots of other people who deserve it as much as me." For motor-cyclist Bruce Dingle, his accolade caps a fine 12 months. "I've had a fantastic season, becoming British Supermoto Champion, the bike didn't break down, and I could do no wrong," he said.
