Swansea's Gwen Spurlock finished second in the opening round

Port Isaac's Gabi Rowe came out on top in the first leg of the Rip Curl Pro women's event at Croyde beach in North Devon on Sunday.

Rowe's performance put her in front of Swansea's Gwen Spurlock and Lucy Campbell from Woolacombe, who finished second and third respectively.

The Rip Curl girls tour will now move on to the second and final leg at Porthmeor Beach in St Ives on Tuesday.

The contest takes place over two days and the forecast is for a good swell.
