Women's one-day international, Hove: England women v India women 7-0 (4 ovs) No result - rain
England captain Charlotte Edwards and Player of the Series Katherine Brunt |
England women's bid for a 5-0 whitewash against India was denied by rain as the final encounter at Hove was abandoned. They went into the day/night match at Hove with a 4-0 lead, but as with their male counterparts, the British summer prevented them from a clean sweep. The match was reduced to 32 overs but did begin, but only four overs were bowled before it was called off. It was a magnificent for summer for England, however, unbeaten with 13 victories and three matches rained off. Seam bowler Katherine Brunt was named Player of the Series against India, a fine achievement for a player whose cricket career was interrupted last year by a serious back injury. "I've got my confidence back now. In the last three games I have started to bend my back and put the effort in," she told ecb.co.uk. "Coming back from injury, I found the summer pretty gruelling. I think I have picked up every niggle in my lower body but my back has been fine." She added: "I did not expect us to beat India 4-0. They are second in the world but did not get close to us. "We have improved more than any other team in the last two years."
