Sarah Taylor batted brightly, hitting 24 from just 17 balls faced

England clinched the one-day series with India after taking an unassailable 3-0 lead with an eight-wicket win in a rain-affected third match at Taunton.

India skipper Mithali Raj made 55 not out off 79 balls but rain ended India's innings on 126-5 after 35.2 overs.

Chasing a revised 99 from 21 overs, Sarah Taylor gave England a fine start with five fours in an attractive 24.

Veteran Claire Taylor, in her 100th match, made an unbeaten 29 and hit the winning runs with 26 balls remaining.

Teenager Taylor had some early fortune when consecutive thick edges flew between somewhat sedentary slip and gully fielders to the boundary.

But the vast majority of her strokes were beautifully played, one lofted on drive bouncing only once before fizzing over the ropes.

India brought portly left-arm spinner Neetu David into the attack, but her first ball was a full toss and was elegantly swept for four by skipper Charlotte Edwards.

But with 53 needed Taylor was needlessly run-out when she called for a single having played straight to mid-on and the powerfully built David uprooted two of the stumps executing the dismissal, which was confirmed by the third umpire.

The senior Taylor got off the mark with an authoritative back foot drive to the boundary that brought up the England 50.

With England looking to secure victory before the rain returned, Edwards was caught at backward square-leg for 25 after top-edging a sweep in slow left-armer Gouher Sultana's first over.

Lydia Greenway twice demonstrated the reverse sweep to good effect as the rain stayed away and England's dominant season continued.

It has been a remarkable summer for England, who also went unbeaten through the two series against West Indies and South Africa.
