England admit Twenty20 errors
Belinda Clark

England captain Claire Connor admitted that the Twenty20 experience took a lot of getting used to, as her team were beaten by seven wickets.

"It was hard setting, we didn't really know what was a good score," she said. "An awesome knock from Karen Rolton, if anyone is suited to this, it's her.

"Anything can happen in Twenty20 and it takes one fantastic innings.

"It was a great day, a really good crowd again and a great way to finish a brilliant summer between the teams."

Connor admitted that her batsmen were guilty of too many rash strokes following the frenetic start. "As a result of that we then dried up a little bit in the middle," she conceded.

"It's a hard format of the game to pace, with the fielding restrictions only in place for the first six overs, we enjoyed the great start but as it turned out we were probably 20 or 30 runs short."

England's next action will be a tour to Sri Lanka and India in November and Connor added: "I don't expect Clare Taylor, the bowler, will be fit, she's got quite a nasty injury, but the squad is announced on 9 September and the girls will look forward to six weeks on the continent."

Australian skipper Belinda Clark confirmed her retirement after the match and agreed that the new format had been difficult to grasp.

"It was very busy out there for a while, I didn't really know what was happening but we knew at some point it was going to slow down we just didn't know whether it was going to be in the 19th over or the 10th over.

"It was very difficult to get accustomed to but it was good fun and I'm sure the crowd enjoyed it."

Clark will stay involved with cricket and is heading for Brisbane to work at the Centre of Excellence.

Rolton, who claimed both the player of the match and the tour, said: "I wouldn't mind playing a few more of these.

"When I bowled the first over and it went for 13 I thought this wasn't too much fun but at least I could get my own back with my batting!"
