Claire Taylor turns the ball away through mid-wicket

England women triumphed by two runs in the third one-day international at Stratford to record their first win over Australia for 12 years.

Claire Taylor anchored the England innings of 200-7 with a superb 82 before being run out towards the end.

Taylor and Charlotte Edwards (32) put on 61 runs for the second wicket.

Lisa Keightley (66) and Lisa Sthalekar (40) put Australia in a strong position but Jenny Gunn (2-27) and Katherine Brunt (2-35) helped England to victory.

The win saw Clare Connor's side reduce the series deficit to 2-1 with two matches left to play. England lost the first match 12 runs and the second by 65 runs.

The tourists needed six runs from the final over to go 3-0 up, but Brunt claimed two wickets in successive balls and Alex Blackwell could only manage a single as she went for a boundary off the last ball.

"It was a fantastic match, really really close and any result could have happened," Taylor, who was named player of the match, told ecb.co.uk.

"It's brilliant to beat Australia at last. It was 1993 when we last beat them and in past series we haven't been competitive.

"In this series we've been competitive but let ourselves down in the last section of the game so this was brilliant.
