BBC Sport Online charts the milestones in Glenn McGrath's road to 100 Ashes wickets, completed in Brisbane on Saturday.

Having failed to take a wicket on debut at the start of the series, McGrath replaced the injured Damien Fleming once the Ashes were already secure.

And he made an instant impact, having England skipper Michael Atherton caught behind by wicket-keeper Ian Healy for four and bowling Mike Gatting next ball.

He went on to take six wickets in the match as Australia secured a 329-run win was to dismiss Atherton on 19 occasions in total.

Most expensive innings - Edgbaston 1997

Although he already had 109 Test wickets to his name, McGrath's debut on English soil saw his least auspicious Ashes performance so far.

It was the only time he has conceded more than 100 runs in an innings, although his workload was not helped when Jason Gillespie pulled up with a hamstring injury after 10 overs.

Nasser Hussain hit 207 and Graham Thorpe 138 in a first innings total of 477, setting up a nine-wicket win.

It did not take McGrath long to bounce back, though, as he recorded figures that remain his Test career best on a rain-hit second day, reducing England to 77 all out.

His eight for 38 set a new record for the best individual bowling in an Ashes Test at Lord's, topping Hedley Verity's eight for 43 in 1934.

Only Graham Thorpe avoided McGrath, top-scoring with 21 before he fell to Paul Reiffel. Nasser Hussain and Darren Gough were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Although the second Test was drawn, England's disastrous first innings proved a turning-point as Australia won the next three matches to retain the Ashes.

Surprisingly, McGrath's match figures of nine for 103 are his best - Australia's senior strike bowler has failed to register any of his three 10-wicket hauls against England.

McGrath dismissed Atherton, caught by Mark Waugh at first slip, in the fifth over of the day.

But Australia had things far from their own way, despite figures of six for 85 from their star fast bowler.

Mark Butcher's century helped England rack up a first innings 375, enough to secure a draw in the opening Test of the series.

McGrath became the 10th Australian to pass the 200 mark in Tests when he had Alec Stewart chasing a wide delivery to Shane Warne at third slip.

He also had a hand in another record in the second innings, when Mark Taylor collected Mark Ramprakash's edged cut to record his 157th Test catch, passing Allan Border's mark.

But both milestones were mere footnotes as spinner Stuart MacGill took 12 wickets in the match, England collapsing to 98-run defeat as Australia secured the series 3-1.

100th Ashes wicket - Brisbane 2002/03

As with his first wicket, McGrath celebrated becoming the 19th bowler to take 100 Ashes scalps with a second wicket in same over.

England had added 12 runs to their overnight total by sixth over of the third morning, when the New South Welshman struck, having a Mark Butcher drive caught by Matthew Hayden in the gully.

Just five balls later Marcus Trescothick edged a tentative forward push straight to Ricky Ponting at second slip.

McGrath's 100th Ashes victim came in just his 19th Test, but he still has a way to go to top the leading Ashes wicket-taker, compatriot Dennis Lillee, who has 167 from 29 matches.
