Final Test, Jamaica, day two (close): West Indies 422 v India 141-4

Sachin Tendulkar fell for 41 as India finished the second day of the fifth and final Test on Sunday on 141-4 in reply to the West Indies first innings of 422.

Tendulkar was dismissed by Sanford when he got an inside edge to a slower delivery, dragging it on to his stumps as India slumped to 84-3 at the Sabina Park.

Cameron Cuffy struck soon after, having opener Shiv Sundar Das adjudged lbw for 33 by umpire Russell Tiffin to peg India further back to 86-4.

Television replays suggested Das might have been unlucky as the ball looked to be drifting down leg-side.

Captain Saurav Ganguly was steadying the innings on 22 at the close with Vangipurappu Laxman on 27.

Paceman Mervyn Dillon dismissed opener Wasim Jaffer for a duck and Rahul Dravid for five as India started their reply disastrously.

Jaffer was beaten by both pace and bounce before being caught behind, while Dravid was trapped lbw.

Earlier Ridley Jacobs and Shivarine Chanderpaul hit half-centuries as the hosts built a big first innings total.

Jacobs's flamboyant batting resulted in a rapid 59

Wicket-keeper Jacobs smashed two sixes and seven fours in his 90-ball 59, while left-handed Chanderpaul scored 58 off 148.

Cahnderpaul was dismissed for the first time in four Test innings when he edged Javagal Srinath behind.

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh (5-138) picked up his first five-wicket haul on foreign soil as the West Indies lost their last five wickets for 21 runs.

Carl Hooper, whose batting in this series has been superb, had made a patient 17 when he went to play a pull shot off Srinath.

Deciding against hitting the ball at the last minute, Hooper left his bat hanging dangerously in the air.

The ball hit willow and looped invitingly up in the air for Rahul Dravid to take the simplest of catches.

The West Indies had begun the second day on top on 287-4, despite being inserted by Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly.

The series is locked at 1-1, making this match the decider.
