Durban delight for SA

Jacques Kallis and Ashwell Prince inspired South Africa to victory in the third and final Test of the series against Australia in Durban by four wickets.

Prince missed out on his maiden Test half century by two runs and Kallis remained unbeaten on 61 after the pair put on 99 runs for South Africa's fourth wicket.

South African captain Mark Boucher was at the crease to hit the winning runs with a boundary after Prince was caught at slip off the bowling of Shane Warne with the winning post in sight.

Kallis and Prince survived a fine spell of seam bowling from Brett Lee at the start of an overcast morning.

Prince just failed to reach his half century
Lee found handy outswing from close to the stumps and wide of the crease, but Kallis and Prince - though they were both beaten twice - survived.

Only 10 runs were scored in the first half-hour of the morning - the best shot a cracking on-drive from Kallis off Lee for four.

Then Kallis opened up his shoulders to hit a searing pull off Lee for another boundary before Shane Warne was introduced to the attack.

The left-handed Prince finally started playing some shots - finding the gaps nicely off Warne, whose first over cost nine.

Kallis went to 50 with a handsome cover drive for four off Warne as South Africa's fifth wicket partnership continued to prosper.

In desperation, Australia brought on part-time bowler Mark Waugh, who broke the previous partnership between Kallis and Gaeme Smith.

He nearly struck in his first over when Prince top-edged an attempted pull shot, but the ball fell safe after ballooning in the air.

Prince compounded Waugh's misery by cutting his next delivery for a boundary, but could not stick around long enough to see his side home.

The victory was a much-needed boost for South Africa, who ended a run of five consecutive Test defeats against Australia.
