Azharuddin has been frozen out by the Indian authorities for six years |
The International Cricket Council believes the Indian board should withdraw an invitation to disgraced former captain Mohammad Azharuddin. Azharuddin has been included in a list of former captains at a special ceremony in Mumbai on 3 November.
He was banned from cricket for life in 2000 for match-fixing.
An ICC spokesman said on Saturday: "The ICC has zero tolerance towards corruption and we hope our members adopt the same approach."
The Indian cricket board has defended its plans to honour Azharuddin.
"Azharuddin's name is in the list," BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said.
"This honour will be for his contribution to Indian cricket, the board doesn't see anything wrong here."
