Azharuddin has been frozen out by the Indian authorities for six years

The 43-year-old was banned for life for match-fixing in 2000 but will join other ex-captains and current skipper Rahul Dravid at the event in Mumbai.

"Azharuddin's name is in the list," BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said.

"This honour will be for his contribution to Indian cricket, the board doesn't see anything wrong here."

Azharuddin and team-mate Ajay Sharma were given life-bans, while Ajay Jadeja and Manoj Prabhakar were suspended for five years.

The BCCI also banned Azharuddin from coaching or assuming any official position in the sport and refused to allow him a pension paid to all former players.

But the batsman, who has been trying to overturn the decision in the courts, exploited a loophole to return to action in a series between India and Pakistan legends earlier this year.

Meanwhile, another controversial figure in Indian cricket, former BCCI and International Cricket Council chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, will also be present at the ceremony.

Dalmiya is currently being investigated for alleged misuse of funds.
