Former Indian cricket chief Jagmohan Dalmiya has been formally suspended from all board meetings while police investigate a complaint against him. Dalmiya is accused of mishandling nearly �50,000 of funds during the 1996 World Cup staged in India - and using the money for "personal gains".
On Monday, he won pre-emptive bail from the Mumbai (Bombay) High Court on a surety of 25,000 rupees (�460).
That forbids the police from arresting
him without the court's permission.
But it was not a day of celebration for Dalmiya.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India called a news conference to announce his suspension.
At it, treasurer N. Srinivasan said: "The president (Sharad Pawar) wrote to Dalmiya informing him that he was being suspended from participating in the affairs of the board until adjudication of the charges."
In February, when the cricket board threatened to file a police complaint, Dalmiya called the allegations "completely baseless".
