England and India coaches Duncan Fletcher and John Wright believe their bowlers need to improve if they are to achieve consistent success in Test cricket.

The four match series has been dominated by the batsmen with each attack managing to take 20 wickets in only one Test apiece.

Fletcher said England's bowling attack is still causing him concerns ahead of the Ashes tour of Australia.

"It has definitely been a series where the batters have dominated on wickets that are very similar to the sub-continent," he told BBC Test Match Special.

"Headingley was the one area where I was disappointed. Headingley was a typical swinging English wicket and we should have taken advantage of that, but the bowlers' length was wrong.

"It has been a concern in previous series that our batsmen have struggled to make 300. What has been particularly pleasing is the way our batsmen have made big score.

"Now we have to make sure that the bowlers are more consistent."

Wright said he has been happy with his side's performance after they fought their way back from a Test down to square the series at Headingley following a tough tour of the West Indies.

But he echoed Fletcher's sentiments that his bowling attack has to improve.

"It is a step forward. Over the last three or four tours since I have been with this team we have gone into the last Test one all with the opportunity to win, and lost those games," he said.

"It has been a great performance for us since the middle of the Trent Bridge Test. But we have got to be able to take 20 wickets more consistently overseas.

"We always thought Headingley was going to be our our best chance to win because it was going to help the bowlers.

"We are pleased with our batting performance since the Lord's Test, but we have got a few things to sort out.

"Virender Sehwag has made great progress but is he an opener? But you can't leave him out of the top six."
