| Jones set for scan ![]() Simon Jones (left) will have a scan on Monday Fast bowler Simon Jones will have a scan on his injured side on Monday after pulling out of the England side for the second Test against India. The Glamorgan paceman was hurt during his Test debut, last week's 177-run victory at Lord's and has been replaced in the squad by Durham's Steve Harmison. It was a blow for the 23-year-old, who made a cavalier 44 with the bat and took four wickets as India went 1-0 down in the four-match series. "I'm absolutely gutted," he told BBC Radio Wales. "I had such a good start in the Test team and then this comes along. "It's a bit disheartening. I've had an x-ray, but that didn't show anything. We'll see what the scan says on Monday and then take it from there." Jones said he had felt the injury flare up after the first ball he delivered in the match. "I was disappointed with the way I bowled in the match, because I knew I wasn't right," he said. "I got one up to 93 mph, but I know I can bowl a lot quicker than that. "When I tried to really let one go, though, I was in quite a bit of pain. I just tried to bowl as well as I could, and my wickets were a bonus." Accuracy Jones has been praised for his ability to produce firebrand deliveries from a robust shoulder action. But he displayed control as well as speed at Lord's, getting England under way in the second innings when he uprooted Virender Sehwag's off-stump. "The one impressive thing about his bowling was he put the ball in the right area and hit the stumps," said England captain Nasser Hussain. "He bowled people out; he was not just someone who ran in and bowled short and wide. "If you've got that and the ability to bowl at 90-plus miles-an-hour you have two valuable assets. |
