Rhodes took over in charge at New Road from Tom Moody in June 2005 |
Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes says they will not be able to bring in any new players despite winning promotion in the Championship. Just a year on from going down, Rhodes' men are back in the top flight in the four-day game after Thursday's victory over Division Two champions Sussex. But Rhodes said: "We are not going to have the funding to bring anyone in. "These are tough times financially for the club," the former England wicket-keeper told BBC Hereford and Worcester. "Hopefully when we come out of recession and start building up the support we might have some money to add to what is a talented young side. "The most important thing is the way the club comes through this period and then grow." | 606: DEBATE |
Rhodes did reveal, however, that the county now hope to bring in an overseas player next season as the county prepare for another tilt at top flight cricket - knowing that they came straight back down, in 2004, 2007 and 2009, the last three times they went up. "We should be able to have one," said Rhodes. "But it will not be a top-notcher, as we don't have the money. "We want the players to enjoy the experience and learn from the experience next year."
