Shaaiq Choudhry has played for MCC |
Shaaiq Choudhry, the man who ruined Kevin Pietersen's comeback, admits he had all but given up on the first-class the game last winter. Choudhry had Petersen caught and bowled in the CB40 game against Surrey and says it was all a bit surreal. "After Christmas I was thinking of giving up and I took a job on," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester. Choudhry ended with four wickets as Worcestershire hammered Surrey by 90 runs at The Oval. "My Dad persuaded me to give it one last try, one last push and it paid off, so I am grateful to my Dad," added Choudhry. | I like to think I am an all-rounder but that is up to other people to decide that |
The 24-year-old was previously with Warwickshire but did not figure in their County Championship side. He played in a first-class game for the MCC against West Indies in 2007 and recently came to New Road on an eight-week trial. He has now been given a contract until the end of next season. "That gives me some time to work on my game and improve on many aspects of my game," he said. "Not just batting and bowling but fitness as well. "I have been doing alright, I have been chipping in with some runs and do what I can, I am not a big hitter but try and rotate the strike. "I like to think I am an all-rounder but that is up to other people to decide that." Choudhry is in the Worcestershire squad for the final CB40 game of the season against Lancashire at Liverpool on Saturday. Worcestershire (from): M.
