Rhodes has harsh words for Worcestershire after defeat

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes admits he had harsh words with his players after the defeat by the Unicorns in the CB 40 on Sunday.

The Royals' loss to the part-timers was their seventh in seven games in the competition this season.

Rhodes told BBC Hereford and Worcester he left his players in no doubt about his feelings.

He said: "It's important players recognise how much it hurts. They know, and it's very, very quiet in there."

Rhodes continued: "When you lose, you have to address the issues as to where you went wrong.

"With young players it is difficult, and it's like when you are a parent, you keep repeating yourself. You keep saying, 'How many times have I told you that ' - and it keeps happening in our cricket as well."

Rhodes said basic errors are continually costing Worcestershire dear.

He said: "It is a very simple game in many ways and you have to do the basics right. The start of our innings was a good example, as was the way we bowled in power plays.

"There was some poor fielding, we dropped two important catches and that is something we must improve on. The more times we keep reminding them where we are going wrong, hopefully the penny will drop."
