Worcestershire earn record profit

Mark Newton
Newton believes Worcestershire's profit could have been higher

Worcestershire have turned in a record profit of over 350,000 - just 12 months after suffering a record loss.

Their New Road ground was badly hit by extensive floods in 2007, leading to losses for the county of over 1m.

But chief executive Mark Newton told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "After the floods in 2007 we set about a two-year recovery, we are on track.

"We lost 75,000 at the end of the 2008 season when we had more flooding or the figures could have been even better."

Nearly 150,000 has been raised by chairman Percy Price's Flood Club, with donations, commercial activities and sponsorship adding to the record profit.

Total income rose by 42% as a result of significant increases in gate, catering and commercial income, whilst expenditure was reduced by 16%.

The county will hold their Annual General Meeting at the King's School Theatre on 9 February.
