Fisher was not offered terms by Gloucestershire for next summer |
Worcestershire have increased their bowling options for next season by signing left-arm spinner Ian Fisher. The 32-year-old, who previously played for Yorkshire and Gloucestershire, has agreed a one-year contract. "We have been looking for a left-arm spinner, primarily for one-day cricket, for some time," said director of cricket Steve Rhodes. "Ian's experience of the one-day game and specifically Twenty20 cricket can only be of benefit to us in 2009." Fisher has taken over 250 wickets in all forms of the game since making his first-class debut in 1996. He is also a useful lower-order batsman, and has a first-class century for Gloucestershire against Essex to his credit. "I'm looking forward to furthering my career in Worcester and am delighted to be given this opportunity by the county," he said. "I'm excited by the prospect of Division One cricket and I'll be striving to contribute during the 2009 season." He was released by Gloucestershire at the end of the 2008 season.
