An artists impression of the new pavilion at New Road |
Worcestershire are to honour two of their greatest batsmen in the first phase of the redevelopment of New Road. The Tom Graveney Lounge will be housed inside a new main pavilion, which will be named after Graeme Hick, who is to retire at the end of the season. "It was a simple decision," said chief executive Mark Newton. "As with the Basil D'Oliveira stand a couple of years ago, we have decided to name the two areas after Graeme Hick and Tom Graveney." The core of the original pavilion, which was built in 1899, must be retained as it has been ruled to have considerable architectural merit. It will taken down brick-by-brick and then re-built at some stage in the future on the site of the existing Ladies Pavilion. The new pavilion will incorporate two floors, with the ground floor being above the 1 in 150 year flood level. The first floor will incorporate new player facilities including dressing rooms, a cricket office, an umpires room, a dining room and a new physiotherapy and rehab facility.
