Warwickshire captain Darren Maddy says young seam bowler Chris Woakes has made a huge impact on the Bears' season.

The 19-year-old took seven wickets in the Championship victory over Middlesex at Uxbridge, taking his season's tally to 21 in only four matches.

"He's had a fantastic start to his career, he's been leading our attack," Maddy told BBC WM.

"To give him the new ball and for him to bowl as well as he's doing is a great credit to him."

Birmingham-born Woakes will miss the Bears' next three Chmapionship games as he is away on international duty.

"We're going to miss him because he's now got to go away in the England under-19 Test series," said Maddy.

"The games will be tough without him, but it gives an opportunity for someone like Naqaash Tahir, Lee Daggett or Jimmy Anyon."

England under-19s begin a two test series against their New Zealand counterparts at Taunton at the end of July.
