County Championship D2, Uxbridge, day four: Warwickshire 393 bt Middlesex 170 & 167 by an innings and 56 runs Warwickshire 21pts, Middlesex 3
Leaders Warwickshire thrashed second-placed Middlesex by an innings and 56 runs to stretch their lead at the top of the Division Two table. Chris Woakes led the way with a career-best 5-37 as the hosts, who resumed on 20-0 in their second innings, crumbled to 167 all out. Eight Middlesex batsmen made it into double figures but none went on to reach fifty at Uxbridge. Murali Kartik came closest with 44 before he fell to Woakes. Middlesex lost their first wicket in the third over of the day, Nick Compton edging Chris Martin to Tony Frost behind the stumps. The in-form Dawid Malan fell victim to some low bounce from the first ball of the next over and was trapped lbw by Woakes and the hosts then lost two wickets with the score on 57. First Martin snapped up Ed Joyce for 12 as the skipper drove at an out-swinger and edged to Darren Maddy, who took a breathtaking catch low to his right at second slip. In the next over Shah, on 13, was surprised by some low bounce from Woakes and was given out leg before. Maddy then chipped in with a couple of quick wickets and after lunch Woakes made short work of the lower order. Kartik offered some resistance with 44 off 53 balls before he drove a slower delivery from Woakes to backward point, where Jim Troughton claimed a spectacular catch.
