Sussex County Cricket Club have signed 19-year-old Irish bowler Craig Young on a one-year academy contract.

The right arm seamer took part in a Sussex training camp in Dubai after impressing in the Under-19 World Cup.

Cricket Performance Manager Keith Greenfield said: "We saw he had potential so we have offered him a place on the Academy Plus scheme.

"This will help his cricket and will act as a stepping stone to attaining a professional contract."

Young took took nine wickets at an average of 18.44 at the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand, including 4-14 in Ireland's victory over Zimbabwe.

He will divide his time between Ireland and Sussex, training with the Hove-based county in six blocks throughout the summer.
