Damien Wright has had a successful season with Victoria |
Australian paceman Damien Wright has been signed by Somerset for the first month of the new cricket season. The 34-year-old will be the overseas replacement for spinner Murali Kartik who is playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose told the club website: "Damien Wright had a fantastic season with Victoria. "He is the sort of bowler who you want if you are looking to fill a gap for four weeks." Wright is no stranger to English cricket, having previously played for Northamptonshire and Glamorgan. He has taken 335 wickets in 103 first-class games at an average of 28.72 while his one-day record is 122 at 29.51. He is the fourth overseas player signed by Somerset this season, joining Kartik, fellow Australian Cameron White and West Indian Kieron Pollard.
