Somerset built on their good start to 2008 with a rain-interrupted six-wicket win over Gloucestershire in Bristol. The hosts won the toss, opted to bat, and reached 252-6, Craig Spearman (78) top-scored while Alex Gidman made 51. Somerset were set a Duckworth-Lewis target of 268, and started well with opener Neil Edwards and John Francis sharing a second-wicket stand of 112. And a quick-scoring partnership between James Hildreth and Craig Kieswetter secured victory with five balls left. Somerset coach Andy Hurry told the club website: "The team played very well today and timed their response really well, never at any stage was there any panic, in fact this was an almost perfect performance." Marcus Trescothick was rested by Somerset as a precaution, due to a mild quad strain.
