ICC World Cricket League Division One: Scotland 172-8 (50 overs) beat Kenya 166 (48.4 overs) by six runs Match scorecard Watts' 50 runs helped Scotland beat Kenya |
Scotland beat Kenya by six runs in their ICC World Cricket League Division One clash in Rotterdam. Fraser Watts top-scored for the Scots with 50 from a total of 172 for eight, while Matthew Parker took four wickets en route to victory. With Kenya struggling on 115 for nine in the 40th over, a comfortable victory looked certain. However, the Africans staged a late rally, with last batsman James Ngoche ending the day on 21 not out. Scotland had previously beaten the host nation and Canada in Holland before a loss to Ireland. After winning the toss, Scotland chose to bat and Preston Mommsen and teenage opener Ollie Hairs put on 41 for the loss of the first wicket before the latter was dismissed by Ngoche for 27. Mommsen was run out for 11 and the Scots began to stutter after the loss of Richie Berrington (2) and Neil McCallum (6) left them on 74 for four. But Watts and Moneeb Iqbal steadied matters with a stand of 73 before both fell to Tim Odoyo. Gordon Drummond (three) and Dougie Lockhart (14) were also removed and Parker and Gordon Goudie saw the Scots over the line. Kenya's response with the bat got off to a poor start as Maurice Odoyo with only one on the board became Parker's first victim. Despite Alex Obanda's top score of 39, the loss of Collins Obuya (1) and Rakep Patel (3) left the Kenyans at 52 for four. Odoyo and Jimmy Kamande combined with a stand of 42 but Kenya contrived to lose four wickets for nine runs. And despite the efforts of Ngoche and Nelson Odhiambo in guiding Kenya to 166, the latter was out for 29, ending the game with eight deliveries. The winner of Scotland's encounter with Afghanistan on Friday will progress to meet Ireland in Saturday's final.
