Ireland beat Scotland by five wickets in their World Cricket League Division 1 match in Voorburg to retain their 100% record in the competition. Batting first, Scotland were 117 all out off 47.2 overs, with Neil McCallum scoring 49 and Dougie Lockhart 19. Trent Johnston and Nigel Jones took two wickets apiece for the Irish. Ireland replied with 120-5 off 34.2 overs, Kevin O'Brien contributing 41 not out and Paul Stirling 37, as the Irish moved to the top of the table. Ireland won the toss and put Scotland in to bat but the Scots were always struggling. Johnston ended with figures of 2-18, Jones took 2-19 and Kevin O'Brien, Paul Mooney and Alex Cusack one wicket apiece. Ireland made heavy weather of their reply in the early stages, lying 12-2 at one point, then 56-3, 58-4 and 65-5. A partnership of 55 between O'Brien and John Mooney, who contributed 20, saw the Irish home for victory. Matthew Parker recorded bowling figures of 2-23 and Gordon Drummond took 2-42. Richard Berrington was the other Scottish wicket-taker. Ireland had already defeated Kenya and Afghanistan in their opening two games as they bid to remain the top associate nation. Ireland won last year's competition which also doubled as the qualifier for the 2011 ICC World Cup. The Irish next face games against Canada (7 July) and Holland (9 July) before their final play-off match on 10 July.
