ICC World Cricket League Division One: Scotland 236-4 (50 overs) beat Canada 126-9 (26 overs) by 69 runs Match scorecard McCallum's batting helped Scotland to victory in Amstelveen |
Scotland beat Canada with a 69-run Duckworth/Lewis victory in their ICC World Cricket League Division One match in Amstelveen. New captain Gordon Drummond won the toss and opted to bat first, with Neil McCallum's unbeaten 89 steering the total to 236 for four. Heavy rain delayed and then reduced Canada's reply. When play was stopped for the night Canada were 126 for nine, well short of their D/L target. Scotland started slowly, with relaxed knocks from Preston Mommsen (19) and Gregor Maiden (30) setting a platform for Richie Berrington and McCallum to add 124 for the fourth wicket. Berrington was eventually bowled for 67 by Rizwan Cheema having hit three fours and two sixes but McCallum pressed on to send seven of his 78 balls to the ropes and four more over them. Matthew Parker struck early after Scotland belatedly took the field, but the honours went to his new-ball partner Gordon Goudie who returned three for 18 from a six-over stint. All six bowlers took a wicket as Canada crumbled, with Ross Lyons' two for 23 the next best effort. The result makes it two wins out of two for Scotland in the campaign, having opened with a one-wicket win over hosts Netherlands on Thursday.
