Hamilton hopes to banish the hammering by Kenya on Monday
Scotland captain Gavin Hamilton hopes his side can recover from Thursday's hammering by Kenya when the ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers start on Tuesday. They play their official warm-up on Sunday against the same opponents in Abu Dhabi. "I would like to think we'll be in a better position by the time we get started," Hamilton told BBC Scotland. "Unfortunately, we lost quite heavily against Kenya the other day, which has been a bit disappointing." The USA are the Scots' first opponents on Tuesday in a pool along with Afghanistan and Republic of Ireland from which the top two teams progress. On Monday, Scotland suffered a 10-wicket thrashing as Kenya avenged the previous week's four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup defeat. | I've said to the lads that we're in a fine-tuning situation for us over this last week, but I think there's some excellent things have come out of it Scotland captain Gavin Hamilton |
Hamilton admitted the result was a blow to the team's preparations for the qualifiers but insisted positive lessons had been learned and the players were keen to get started on the campaign in earnest. "I've said to the lads that we're in a fine-tuning situation for us over this last week, but I think there's some excellent things have come out of it," said the captain, whose side also recorded two wins over Uganda. "We don't have the luxury of playing a lot of Twenty20 cricket and, given how important the tournament is, it would have been nice to play a few games. "It's always difficult playing in other countries, but it's no excuse - we knew what we were trying to achieve. "But what we got out of it was it has let us decide how we're going to play our cricket - we've decided our direction, how we're going to field, bowl and bat. "So hopefully, after a couple of big team talks, we can put it into practice on Sunday."
