Scotland rest big names for I-Cup

Fraser Watts
Fraser Watts will captain Scotland in Bermuda and Canada

Scotland have left out several experienced campaigners for next month's ICC Intercontinental Cup matches against Canada and Bermuda.

Captain Ryan Watson stays at home, along with Gavin Hamilton, Craig Wright, Glenn Rogers and John Blain.

Head coach Peter Steindl said: "Although we cannot now hope to win the I-Cup itself, we will certainly take these matches seriously.

"Players know that they represent an excellent platform for their talents."

Fraser Watts will lead the side in the absence of Watson as Scotland look to improve on just one win from four outings in the tournament.

The match against Bermuda (10-13 July) will be played in the new National Cricket Centre, while game against Canada (16-19 July) is at the Toronto Sports Club.

"It is vital that we build strength in depth among our squads - particularly with next year's World Cup qualifying tournament in mind," added Roddy Smith, Cricket Scotland?s chief executive.

Scotland squad: Fraser Watts (Carlton, captain); Richie Berrington, Dewald Nel, Sean Weeraratna (all Greenock); Gordon Drummond (Watsonians); Gordon Goudie, Dougie Lockhart (West of Scotland); Majid Haq (Ferguslie); Ross Lyons, Qasim Sheikh (Clydesdale); Neil McCallum, Gregor Maiden (Grange); Colin Smith (Aberdeenshire, wicket-keeper)
