Mick Newell wants Nottinghamshire batting improvement

Newell's side have won four of their eight Championship games this season

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell wants to see an improvement in his side's Championship batting.

Notts, who include Stuart Broad, Ryan Sidebottom and Graeme Swann in their squad for Tuesday's match with Warwickshire, are second in the table.

Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I am looking for our international players to make a big impact and am looking for our batsman to improve our performance.

"This is very important game if we want to catch Yorkshire."

Alex Hales and Samit Patel will open the batting in a top order reinforced by Mark Wagh and David Hussey.

Andre Adams completes the seam attack with Steven Mullaney, Ali Brown and Chris Read representing a strong middle order.

Notts began the season as early leaders in the Championship, but have failed to win in their last four matches, including defeat at Essex two weeks ago.

They now trail leaders Yorkshire by 21 points but do have two games in hand.

"We won the first four games and three of those were at home on wickets that suited our bowlers," added Newell.

"We've come a little bit unstuck away from home where we haven't played so well and we didn't score the runs at Essex that I would've liked."
