Samit Patel led the way with 40 runs as Nottinghamshire prepared for their FP t20 quarter-final with a seven-wicket win over already eliminated Yorkshire.

Batting first on a slow pitch, Yorks collapsed to 34-4 and needed 39no from t20 debutant Lee Hodgson and 25 from Jonathan Bairstow to reach 112-7.

Notts lost two early wickets but Patel's 40 off 27 put them in control.

And an unbeaten partnership from David Hussey (37) and Alex Hales (27) helped them win with 26 balls left.

It took until the fifth over for Yorkshire to hit their first boundary - Herschelle Gibbs pulling Sidebottom (2-19) for four - but only four more fours and two sixes followed in the entire innings.

They were already out of the running and played youngsters Gary Ballance, Hodgson and Ben Sanderson, who had a combined experience of one t20 match.

And Hodgson's partnership of 39 for the fifth wicket with Jonathan Bairstow ensured Yorkshire avoided their lowest total in the competition.

But once Patel hit Hodgson for three consecutive fours in the sixth over, their hopes of a consolation victory looked even slimmer.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid conceded 16 runs off his first over and, although Patel holed out to David Wainwright, Hussey and Hales finished off the chase.
