Mick Newell hails fantastic T20 start

Newell's side bounced back from defeat at Warwickshire on Wednesday

Nottinghamshire's director of cricket Mick Newell has hailed his side's fantastic start to this year's FP t20.

Notts eased to a six-wicket victory over rivals Derbyshire on Thursday, which was their fifth victory in six Twenty20 matches this season.

Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I think we played really well to win. For the most part we seemed to control their innings.

"Five out of six is a fantastic beginning but there's 10 games to go."

Notts bounced back from a five-wicket defeat at Warwickshire on Wednesday, to beat their their local-rivals with 12 balls to spare.

"The (Warwickshire) defeat wasn't a bad thing in some ways because we know we're not going to win 16 games, we're not going to win 15 games," added Newell.

"There's going to be losses along the way and a chance to come back and play the next night is obviously a good thing, especially when you come to Derby."

Newell said wicketkeeper Chris Read, who was ruled out of Thursday's fixture with a calf strain, may feature against Durham on Sunday.

"I'd like him to play but I thought Bilal [Shafayat] did an excellent job," he said. "We'll take Chris up there and test him on Sunday morning."
