Northants' skipper Andrew Hall upbeat after Surrey loss
Hall has played 21 Test matches for South Africa
Northants are heading in the right direction despite their defeat by Surrey, says skipper Andrew Hall
The 34-year-old all-rounder replaced fellow South African Nicky Boje who resigned as skipper earlier this month.
"We're getting there and it's heading in the right direction," Hall told BBC Radio Northampton.
"It's good when you get two or three of the guys doing well - but in a team sport you really need more of them to perform," he added.
Hall began his captaincy with a Championship victory over Sussex at Northampton but then saw his team beaten by seven wickets in their next four-day match, at home to Surrey.
"It was one of those games when we had them by the scruff of the neck but managed to let go," Hall said.
"We didn't play as well as we could have or should have done."
The new captain also praised new signing Chaminda Vaas, the experienced Sri Lanka seamer who made his Northants debut against Surrey and will stay with the club throughout the Twenty20 campaign.
"He's a tremendously talented cricketer who knows what he's doing with the ball and what he wants the batsman to do," added Hall.
