Reigning champions Finedon Dolben crushed Wellingborough Town by nine wickets to launch their Hevey Northants League title defence in style. Finedon dismissed their newly-promoted opponents for 167 and coasted home with 22 overs to spare thanks to an unbeaten 103 from opener Greg Evans. Northampton Saints, runners-up in 2009, also began strongly with a 104-run victory over Burton Latimer. Peterborough, Rushton and Northants Academy were the day's other winners. The only draw in the opening round of Premier Division fixtures came at Wollaston where the home side's last pair held on to deny hosts Old Northamptonians victory.
