Iain O'Brien's devastating burst with the new ball was the key to Middlesex's seven-wicket victory over Northants in their Clydesdale Bank 40 opener.

The New Zealander, who took 4-41, got rid of the top four Northants batsman as they slumped to 55-4.

Only a patient near two-hour innings of 56 from David Sales saw the home side to 146 all out.

Middlesex won with seven overs to spare thanks to unbeaten knocks by Gareth Berg (43) and Dawid Malan (31).
