Kerrigan helped Lancashire win by 65 runs at Edgbaston |
Lancashire head coach Peter Moores has praised the bowling of Simon Kerrigan after the young spinner took 6-74 against Essex. The 21-year-old was making his second County Championship appearance after playing in the win over Warwickshire. Moores told BBC Radio Manchester: "Simon's done a great job so far for us and he's got real skill. "He's got the ability to run the ball on and get turn so he attacks both edges which all spinners try to do." He added: "The figures were fantastic. What made it so good really was the fact he had to bowl 30-odd overs on the first day when he only got two wickets so it was real additional cricket. "He was doing a fantastic job for the team. There wasn't much turn in the pitch and he was showing his real control when he bowled to keep us in the game. We were under pressure. "He got his reward the next day which often comes and is a good lesson for him. "I think if you bowl well the first day what happens the next day is the captain throws you the ball a bit earlier, which he did, and Simon came and got four quick wickets and they were fantastic figures."
