Holland is to have more tests on his fractured clavicle

Jockey Darryll Holland will miss the Derby after breaking his collarbone at Beverley on Wednesday.

Holland tumbled as Misty Morn left the stalls in the Hilary Needler Trophy and was taken to hospital for X-rays.

Holland's agent David Harrison said: "He'll be out for three to four weeks at least. It's not just missing the Derby, it's such a busy time of year."

Newmarket trainer Mark Tompkins said he would offer Kieren Fallon the ride on Ted Spread on 5 June.

Harrison confirmed he had spoken to Holland on Thursday morning and said the 37-year-old was having more tests in Cambridge on the injury.

Tompkins is now hoping that Fallon will be able to take the mount on the Chester Vase hero a week on Saturday.

Tompkins said: "We've made a few phone calls this morning.

"If Kieren doesn't ride for Aidan [O'Brien] I will certainly ask him."

Tompkins believes his charge will put up a good show in the premier Classic.

"We went to Chester for the ground, and once he won that we thought we had to have a go at the Derby," he added.

"I hope he won't disgrace himself, I think he could be fourth or fifth."

The Hilary Needler Trophy in which Holland was unseated was won by Geesala, mounted by Jamie Spencer.
