Geraint Jones urges Kent 'quick' search

Kent wicketkeeper Geraint Jones has urged the county to up its search for home-grown fast bowlers.

"We're pretty blessed with batting talent, but it would be great to see some Kent-reared quick bowlers come through," Jones told BBC Radio Kent.

"The challenge for us is to find the next Stuart Broad or James Anderson."

Matt Coles, 20, was the only Kent-born seam bowler to play regularly in the 2010 season, taking 27 first-class and 29 limited overs wickets.

"What wins you Championships is having a proper bowling attack. It would be great to be keeping to someone bowling 90 miles per hour who was born in Kent," said Jones.

I think a season - or more - in the second division could be good for the future of Kent cricket

"We need to look in every nook and cranny in the county. Our development teams have searched, of course, but sometimes players slip through the net."

The former England international, 34, thinks that with so many youngsters currently coming into the Kent squad, it would not be a disaster if they were not promoted from Division Two of the County Championship in 2011.

"I'll probably get my knuckles rapped for saying so, and of course we want to win every game we play, but I think a season - or more - in the second division could be good for the future of Kent cricket," he explained.

"What I don't want to do is be back in the first division as whipping boys, in the bigger picture I don't think missing promotion would be the worst thing."
