Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens has spoken of his pride after being named as the county's player of the season.

The 34-year-old hit four centuries this summer, averaging more than 44, and has also taken 40 wickets in all forms of the game.

"It's great to be picked by the supporters," he told BBC Radio Kent.

"I got it in 2005 and was really pleased because it was my first year here. So to then get it again this year is brilliant."

He added: "As a side we've had a tough year but I had a good start to the season, got my call-up to the England Lions and did well for them."

Stevens impressed many with his recent performances for the Lions. He scored 64 playing against India A and that taste of international cricket has given him the appetite for more.

"I've still got ambitions to play for England in one-day cricket," he said.

"If that happens then it does, and if not I can't do anything about that I've just got to try and keep getting the runs on the board."

Stevens dismissed recent claims that he is open to offers for next season, insisting he plans to honour the year he has left with Kent

As for when that contract expires he said: "We've just got to see what happens with Kent's future really.

"As long as we're moving forward as a club and are looking to compete and win games and trophies next year then I'm definitely going to be here.

"If that changes then maybe I will have to look at something else but at the moment I'm very happy where I'm at.

Stevens is just 25 runs short of 1,000 for the season at the halfway point of Kent's final county championship game of the season at Yorkshire.
