Black celebrates reaching his first century in first class cricket |
Kent remained on the brink of relegation despite a maiden century from Alex Blake as Yorkshire's hopes of the title hung in the balance. Blake's unbeaten 105 helped Kent to 302 - a first innings lead of 41. But they will still drop down to Division Two if Warwickshire collect another point at Hampshire. Yorkshire, needing to win to stand any chance of the title, lost Jacques Rudolph early on in their second innings as they closed on 51-1. Rain restricted play to just four overs before 1540 BST but that was still enough time for university student, Blake, to add the 10 runs he needed for his first 50 in first-class cricket. Soon after the re-start Moin Ashraf, whose 5-32 was Yorkshire's best bowling display in the Championship this season, took two wickets in three balls. First he had James Tredwell caught by Gerard Brophy before bowling Matt Coles. Adil Rashid then trapped Simon Cook with a googly to leave Kent on 261-9. But Blake continued to attack, executing a series of cover drives off Steve Patterson and Ajmal Shahzad. The second of three consecutive boundaries off the bowling of Rashid saw him reach his century and the third of those strikes brought up Kent's 300. But they were all out when Patterson trapped Dewald Nel lbw with the last wicket partnership on 41. Yorkshire almost lost the first wicket of their second innings when Adam Lyth edged Simon Cook but Tredwell could not hold the catch. But he made up for that mistake when he trapped Rudolph lbw.
