Farbrace took over from Graham Ford as coach for the 2010 season |
Kent coach Paul Farbrace has reassured fans that to his knowledge no other senior players will be leaving the club at the end of the season. It was recently announced that Amjad Khan has not been offered a new contract for financial reasons. But Farbrace believes the likes of captain Rob Key, Martin van Jaarsveld and Geraint Jones should still be at Canterbury next year. "I sincerely hope that no-one else leaves," he told BBC Radio Kent. He added: "I can't comment any further than that other than to say that I've heard the speculation that we're saying that all of our players are free to leave - that simply isn't true. "I can guarantee you that's not the case. "I sincerely hope that no-one else does leave because we do need to get to a stage where no matter how bad the financial situation gets we still need to be able to put out a team on the field and be competitive. | He was huge for us in the five weeks he was here and we'd certainly me keen on seeing Makhaya Ntini playing for Kent again |
"It's all very well having young players coming through, but they need experienced players to work with." Despite the club's financial difficulties, Farbrace has not ruled out the possibility of South African bowler Makhaya Ntini returning to the county next season. The 32-year-old spent five weeks with Kent this year and impressed Farbrace, players and fans. Ntini has said he would like to come back if he is not involved with the national team. "I've kept in constant contact with Makhaya's manager," said Farbrace. "Funnily enough I spoke to him on Wednesday and there is still a willingness on his part to come back. "He was huge for us in the five weeks he was here and we'd certainly me keen on seeing Makhaya Ntini playing for Kent again. "But whether that can happen or not I honestly couldn't say at this stage."
