Kent pair resign from ICL deals

Justin Kemp and Azhar Mahmood
Kemp and Mahmood have committed themselves to Kent in Twenty20 cricket

Kent have confirmed that all-rounders Justin Kemp and Azhar Mahmood have withdrawn from their contracts with the Indian Cricket League.

It means Kent can now play in the 2009 Champions League should they qualify by winning the Twenty20 Cup.

South African Kemp, 31, and Pakistani Mahmood, 34, will also be able to play in the competition's qualifying stages, but not in the final until 2010.

Sussex's Murray Goodwin resigned from his contract with the ICL on Wednesday.

Counties with players contracted to the ICL have been banned from playing in the Champions League.

Kent chairman George Kennedy said: "It's great news for Kent. Both Azhar and Justin have given up serious money to play for us and they deserve our sincere thanks."
