Rob Key's side finished runners-up in three competitions last season |
Kent captain Rob Key believes he is closer than he has ever been to skippering England. After leading the England Lions in New Zealand, Key is now being touted for the role at the World Twenty20. The 29-year-old told BBC Radio Kent: "There's probably more chance of this happening than there was in the past. "But it is still, in my eyes, a long way away. There is no point getting all excited when you might not have anything to do with it." Key added: "I'm just pleased to be in the shake-up at the minute but you learn to keep a bit of perspective about what is going on. "It wasn't so long ago I was talked about as England captain and Kevin Pietersen got it. "I think it's speculation at the minute." Key emerged as one of the favourites to lead England at the ICC World Twenty20 tournament after Test and one-day captain Andrew Strauss was left out of the provisional 30-man squad.
