Phil Simmons was disappointed to miss out on a place in the decider |
Ireland have failed to make the Triangular Series final in Kenya after rain prevented play in Thursday's game between the hosts and Zimbabwe. A win for either team would have sealed Ireland's place in the final but the washout leaves them in third place. "Every team wants to be in the final - we have played well in the series but there's little we could do with the rain," said Ireland coach Phil Simmons. The Irish lost their opener against Zimbabwe before beating Kenya. Ireland were beaten by 156 runs by Zimbabwe before claiming an 86-run win over Kenya. Kenya defeated Zimbabwe in the other completed match and both African sides had better run-rates than the Irish. Ireland will now travel to South Africa where they are scheduled to play Namibia in the ICC Intercontinental Cup final, starting in Port Elizabeth on 30 October.
