Lumb scored 137 runs during England's victorious World Twenty20 campaign |
Queensland Bulls have signed Hampshire batsman Michael Lumb for Australia's domestic Twenty20 competition. The 30-year-old, who starred in England's ICC World Twenty20 campaign, will team up with the Bulls in January. Lumb, whose domestic season in England was ended by a broken foot in August, also played for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League this year. "It's going to be an amazing experience playing in Australia - I honestly can't wait," he said. Lumb is expected to be available for the entire tournament, although he will be released should he be selected by England for their Twenty20 internationals against Australia on 12 and 14 January. Bulls coach Trevor Barsby said he moved for Lumb following Andrew Flintoff's retirement. "When we learned that Andrew Flintoff was not going to be able to take up his contract with us we looked at a few players that we felt would bring something special to our group," said Barsby. "Having caught a few of his performances for England and Rajasthan, Michael was pretty well at the top of the list as far as I was concerned."
