John Bracewell wants Jack Russell to remain on his coaching staff when he returns to Gloucestershire as director of cricket next season. Russell has been acting as team mentor this year, after the county sacked head coach Mark Alleyne in February. "Jack was an inspiration to me, as a player, and as a professional," Bracewell told BBC Radio Bristol. "So any capacity that Jack can be involved in this club will be a value, both to me and the club." | He sets extremely high standards, and he's very positive |
The wicketkeeper, who played in 53 Test matches for England, served Gloucestershire as a player for 23 years until his retirement in 2004. His return to the club has been popular with supporters. Chief executive Tom Richardson says talks have yet to take place about a role for next season. "Jack has the filled the gap brilliantly," said Richardson. "And it's great to have him around. "Obviously we'd like to have him involved in some way, but we've got to talk that through. "He sets extremely high standards, and he's very positive and we're just very thankful that he's done it this year."
